WICKED’s award winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, also the lyricist for new film Enchanted, is flying to Melbourne this January!
The wonderful wizard of composition, Stephen Schwartz, is probably best known in Australia for his music and lyrics for the stage musical GODSPELL and the DreamWorks animated feature THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, for which he received the 1999 Academy Award for Best Original Song. Other internationally renowned works include the lyrics to the Disney animated features POCAHONTAS (two Academy Awards), THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, and the recently released ENCHANTED, all in partnership with acclaimed composer Alan Menken.
Stephen Schwartz has contributed music and/or lyrics to many leading musicals including PIPPIN; THE MAGIC SHOW; THE BAKER’S WIFE; WORKING (which he also adapted and directed); RAGS, CHILDREN OF EDEN and also provided lyrics in collaboration with Leonard Bernstein for Bernstein's MASS.
Stephen Schwartz has released two CDs of new songs entitled Reluctant Pilgrim and Uncharted Territory available at www.stephenschwartz.com. Mr. Schwartz is also the artistic director of the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshops and a member of the Dramatists Guild Council.
Awards include three Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, and a tiny handful of tennis trophies – and he may be sighted attending the Australian Open!
